I totally had a fish on right there!

Clive Mathias on July 4th, 2008 @ 6:49PM

hi how are you today i was just wondering if you know if theres any fish in the eglington flats area pond in toronto.

chris on September 28th, 2008 @ 10:32AM

Sorry, but I've never fished that area.

Jonathon Marshall on September 29th, 2008 @ 5:06PM

The eglinton flats are full of sunfish and brownbull head. Supposedly there's a few carp and largemouth, but I've never caught any. I haven't fished there since I was a kid, but from what i remember, if you cast out a worm, you'll catch something!

cam on October 7th, 2008 @ 8:15AM

I've caught a pumpkinseed on a worm at Eglinton Flats, and a 12" largemouth using a red and white spoon. I caught the largie from the bridge. Another guy who fishes there says he catches plenty of black crappie there.

Hey JP, most of the Toronto shoreline can produce fish solid fish. This time of year the pike are near shore. Toronto Islands offers the best shore fishing IMO

Clive Mathias on February 12th, 2009 @ 11:18AM

Hi i just moved here from ireland for a year , im living on eglinton and mount plesant i am a keen fisherman and was just wondering whare would b the closest place be for a bit of river fishing?

jp kavanagh on February 12th, 2009 @ 10:35AM

Hi,
Try the Centenial Park pond, it has Carp and Cat fish. The pond is situated near the go karting racing track or oposite the golf course.

Shane on May 29th, 2009 @ 4:47AM

Hi how do i get to that specific spot that you are fishing? i have never been to Toronto island...please can you tell me of the hot spots there to fish pike.

Thank you

pikemaster on June 7th, 2009 @ 1:20AM

You'd think it would be pretty obvious given the skyline. It's centre island, keep in mind that this photo was taken in 2004 so the landscape on the islands may have changed dramatically.

Jonathon Marshall on June 7th, 2009 @ 7:52AM

Hey guy's my brother and i are from New Brunswick and are going to be in the Toronto area for about five days in early July. We were wondering where the best shore fishing would be in the area? And also would we need on out of province liscense to fish and do you now how we would go about getting one? Thanks alot!

Andrew on June 15th, 2009 @ 6:49AM

Hey Andrew, the pike fishing will have slowed down by then , but bass season will be open in the 3rd Saturday in June. If you want to fish within the city, Toronto Islands and Grenedier pond are going to be your best options.

You can get a license at any fishing store or Canadian Tire.

Clive Mathias on June 15th, 2009 @ 8:13AM

Hey thanks alot Clive, looks like we will try the Islands sounds like it would be the best bet! So how Big do the large mouth bass and carp get there? I would love to get into some big fish, being from NB we don't get a chance to catch anything all that big here.

Andrew on June 16th, 2009 @ 12:54PM

Hey Andrew, the bass can be around 5lbs and the carp often grow over 30lbs!

If you are in NB, you've got plenty of big fish to catch in the Saint John River - striped bass and muskie!!!

Clive Mathias on June 22nd, 2009 @ 11:22AM

I acually do fish the Saint John River quite a bit, and have been lucky enough to catch a few strippers(20-24 inches) but they only run for a short period of time usually late july i believe, Shad also run through the river around this time of year, caught a 19 inch shad just the other day, nice fight!
So Clive when we fish the Toronto Islands what tackle should i have on my rod for large mouth? And what do you use for carp, worms or corn? Also i only have a 6' 6" spinning rod and reel, with 10lb test is that gonna cut it there lol?

Andrew on June 23rd, 2009 @ 7:32AM

That will cut it for most fish including carp, but for pike I'd suggest heavier line with a leader!

Clive Mathias on July 2nd, 2009 @ 4:36PM

Hi there, My buddy and I want to do some shore fishing in the middle of August in Toronto. What are the best spots for large types of fish? Centre Island? Port Credit? Others?

Sukesh on July 23rd, 2009 @ 8:30AM

Toronto Islands hold plenty of big fish, but they can be hard to find in the heat of the summer. All the big pike will be in deeper water, and may not be reachable from shore. Carp should be around, and there is a decent population of big bass. I cant really point out any spots that will guarantee fish unfortunately, I haven't fished there in August in several years.

Clive Mathias on July 24th, 2009 @ 7:27AM

I couldn't get out to the island during the last two months cuz of that dumbass strike, now i gotta fish in august.. anyone know if theres any good bass spots in the GTA? maybe even some topwater action? or is that primarily in the spring?

Omar on August 8th, 2009 @ 2:19PM

Bass are certainly still around, big pike have moved to deeper water though. Check out some of the reports in our forums about TO bass:

Looking for those big Toronto Island carp, and never fished the islands before. Where are the best spots to find some deeper water in the canals. Looking at the sat images on google earth, the eastern gap looks promising.

Jon on August 11th, 2009 @ 4:12PM

Anyone been successful in catching carp at humber bay park(east or west)??? Tried the cornmeal trick but all i see is them jumping out of the water and thats it. If anyone has caught one this year let me know.

Ted on August 13th, 2009 @ 8:25PM

Jon: You can find them in the center channel pretty easily, there are also a number of ponds in the area around centre island that they like to hang out in.

Ted: I've caught carp in humber bay before, hope this helps.

Jonathon Marshall on August 20th, 2009 @ 12:03PM

Brendon, Toronto Islands can hold bass this time of year, however it has been very cold for a few weeks now and they may have moved out to deeper water. Try fishing the inlets to the islands and casting out in to the deep water. Your best bet may be to wait for a nice warm bright day, consecutive ones for better results. You may find other species in the channels though, like northern pike.

Good luck out there and let us know if you catch anything!

Jonathon Marshall on October 12th, 2009 @ 4:54PM

Hi guys, great website. Where do you think the best fall fishing is in Toronto? Bass? I would like to cast from shore as I don't have a boat. Thank You

Brendon on October 11th, 2009 @ 11:46PM

Does anyone know if theres any fish in the Humber river marsh in the west end of toronto, in other words the opening of humber river.
Thanks

justin on October 20th, 2009 @ 1:52AM

Justin, yes there are fish in that area and in humber bay which is just east of where that photo was taken.

Jonathon Marshall on October 20th, 2009 @ 2:42PM

Hello, I read that their was only small fish in Eglinton flats so I got my fishing rod and went down with some strike king spinner baits and brand new fire line so I can toss it to the middle of the pond. My 2nd cast I cought a huge large mouth bass with top water bait, then I put the strike king lure on and it was game on, I cought pike after pike no one knows that pike are there so they are 36" plus so try some lures the next time you go, instead of worms. Good luck

Toronto Islands 2004

While researching shore fishing opportunities in the Toronto Area, we took the ferry across the harbor to the Toronto Islands. There we found plenty of weed beds and structure capable of holding fish. It wasn't long before we discovered a pattern and started catching Northern Pike almost non-stop.

Re: Quantum PT Tour Edition

Kim, I do not believe I have this problem on either of the baitcasters I own. Have you recently dropped yours or has it otherwise been impacted on either side? Have you tried disassembling the reel and to see if the mechanism is engaged? If you still have the box and manual there is an exploded diagram I believe. If you're not comfortable taking it apart I would see about sending it to Quantum for repair or having a knowledgeable person at your local baitshop take a look. Hope this helps.
