Hello Jon,

Must say I'm very impressed with your site, looks great. So here's my story, I've gotten into fishing big time in the last 3 years and have usually been able to go out with a bunch of my friends (they have boats, I don't!). I moved to condo on Queen's Quay and am hoping that I can get into some of this Toronto Island fishing. Do you know when and where I can fish on the Island? Seasons? I'm a big catch and release fisherman who loves top water action especially with the largies, any idea if those technics would work on the Island?

Hey Thanks for the quick response Jon,
Thanks for the info also, answered a lot of questions. I have but a couple more; Are there any shorelines on the Island that cannot be fished? How do you get around on the Island (I was thinking of bringing my bike)? Finally what kind of line do you guys use, all of my reels are ready to go with some pretty heavy braded stuff, like 30-40lbs (from fishing heavy structure all last summer).
I will definetly say hi if I see you guys out there and I will probbaly try and get as much info as I can from the pros!

I saw that there was an option on your site to post some pics, I'll put a couple of my best from last summer, let me know what you think.

Hey Al, pike season is currently open until the end of March, then it closes for a month and opens the second Saturday in May. We use heavy braid as well, at least 40lb, I have one reel with 65lb. There is potential for large fish as you can see from Jon's photo - the largest we've caught was over 40 inches. You can ride you bike around most of the places we fish, there are only a few areas that you cant.

Al, check out the shore fishing article on our site we put our heads together and developed our own power-shore fishing tactics on the islands

Also anything in the Toronto Islands category on our blog is great material.

The season can change from year to year so its always best to check with the MNR for the regulations. Here's a link to the 2008-2009 regulations for Ontario.

If we ever cross paths feel free to say hi, I also carry free stickers!

Toronto Islands 2004

While researching shore fishing opportunities in the Toronto Area, we took the ferry across the harbor to the Toronto Islands. There we found plenty of weed beds and structure capable of holding fish. It wasn't long before we discovered a pattern and started catching Northern Pike almost non-stop.

Re: Quantum PT Tour Edition

Kim, I do not believe I have this problem on either of the baitcasters I own. Have you recently dropped yours or has it otherwise been impacted on either side? Have you tried disassembling the reel and to see if the mechanism is engaged? If you still have the box and manual there is an exploded diagram I believe. If you're not comfortable taking it apart I would see about sending it to Quantum for repair or having a knowledgeable person at your local baitshop take a look. Hope this helps.
